Premarital counseling

I love marriage. And I really enjoy being with engaged couples who share that enthusiasm. But no matter how excited you may feel, for the sake of your relationship, premarital counseling is meant to be a space for more than just celebrating. Premarriage counseling makes space for you to discuss important things prior to marrying that are guaranteed to come up after the wedding.

Expectations, for example. Most people haven't clearly identified their own expectations, let alone their partner's. And everyone's expectations about marriage are different.

I can facilitate a conversation about the tricky things that you're having a hard time talking about. We can look at how successful couples talk about emotions, how they resolve conflict, and navigate change together. Rather than giving you a script or a formula, I'll help you look for what works uniquely for you as a couple.

I’m a certified Prepare/Enrich Facilitator. If you are interested in taking their online couples assessment, it is an additional one time charge of $35. Or, you can complete my custom long form couples assessment for free.

I have an MA in Marriage, Couples, & Family Counseling from George Fox University. I've received additional training in Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I’ve facilitated relationships groups, including around 30 Marriage Preparation groups for engaged couples.

Among the books I recommend to couples:

Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas

The Meaning of Marriage by Timothy & Kathy Keller

The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work by John Gottman and Nan Silver

Things to Know Before You Say ‘Go’ by Eslbeth Martindale

 Fees

The fee is $100 per 50 minute session. Three sessions is recommended.

An additional $35 if you choose to take the Prepare/Enrich assessment.
